Many anglers enjoy trout fishing for other reasons than merely catching. Trout is widely distributed and most commonly found in habitats that provide good food and clean water. However, to go fishing for trout, you must follow the regulations and have a proper permit or license.

Fishing techniques for Lakes and Ponds:

There are the three easiest ways for fishing in lakes and ponds.

• Suspend bait under the bobber; lead weight attached above the hook and bobber is added about 1 ½ to 3 feet. Cast out to a likely spot and wait for the bobber to jerk. It will be helpful when you are cursing over the surface.

• For fishing in the bottom, there is no need to attach a bobber; instead, lead weight is attached about 1 ½ foot above the hook so that it will sink, but bait will remain about the water. 

Fishing techniques for Streams and Rivers:

In moving water, the water current will decide where your lure will move so that the following techniques will help you for fishing in moving waters

• Cast the spinner by casting a spinner slightly upriver.

• As the water current carries the spinner down the river, you must be holding the fishing line off the water to achieve a natural “drift.”

• Drift the worm with enough split shot to get within a few inches of the bottom.

Trout Habitats:

Trout are present in both still(lake, pond) and moving waters(streams, rivers). The techniques vary depending upon whether you are fishing in still or moving water. 

 

In lakes and ponds, trout are primarily present near the aquatic vegetation, deeper waters, and around rocks, logs, stumps. 

Trout are more active in spring falls when the water is cooler.

Trout are found behind the rocks or near undercut banks; the best time for fishing in the spring and fall when the water temperature is cooler. However, you can also fish in waters if you are strong enough to face the cold water in winters trout are present in slow and calm water.

Trout consider artificial bait as fake, so to attract tout, you must have natural baits, but in particular water, it is illegal to use natural baits. Another problem with natural baits is that trout swallow these baits so deeply that it is difficult to remove the hook without injuring the fish.

Grasshoppers and Crickets:

Give the insect a slight twitch to ripple the surface, then hang on.

Worms:

Garden Hackel, waxworms, red wigglers, whatever you may call it, is always an odds-on favorite for attracting trout. Worms are the bottom baits; thread the worms on the hook leaving the ends dangling.

For the waxworms, use a slip-sinker rig instead of a regular bait hook holder. Impaled three or four waxworms through the midsection on the hook and add a tiny marshmallow to the hook that protects it from sinking.

Aquatic Nymphs and Larvae:

Many insects are a vital part of trout’s diet; the larvae and nymphs will be swept with the current into the net. Pick them off, and store them in a container to which you’ve added some damp vegetation.

• Mayfly and stonefly larvae are the best trout baits and resemble closely; these can be collected from the well-oxygenated streams and use for fishing when needed. 

• Hellgrammitesare centipedes like bugs; they can catch several trout on one bait. Hook them under the collar just behind the head, but beware of their nasty pincers.

• Dragonfly anddamselflyare the nymphs primarily found in the debris, in piles of leaves. You can collect them with a dip net or seine raked across the bottom. Carry them in a wet container with leaves. 

Baitfish and Crayfish:

Baitfish are effective bait for trout around the year. Minnows are a good choice when you want to catch a large trophy size trout. Baitfish are hooked through the lips. 

Crayfish is another bait for the trout; don’t hesitate to use large-sized specimens for a jumbo-sized trout. Big brown trout are especially fond of these natural bait morsels. Unfortunately, both cray and baitfish are overlooked by anglers. 

Trout Fishing Gear:

The perfect gear for fishing trout is simple as rod and reel, bobbers, bait hooks, and a small selection of lures. It would help if you had the following things to fish trout anywhere you find trout.
