VETERANS DAY ~~ HONORING ALL WHO SERVED

Veterans day is Armistice Day celebrated on November 11 to honor the U.S. veterans for their sacrifice and bravery.

“True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve all others at whatever cost.”

Veterans Day History:

  •  On the first anniversary of the end of World War I, Veterans day originated as Armistice day.
  • In the year 1926, Congress passed a resolution for the annual observance on November 11.
  • In 1938 it was declared to celebrate 11 November as a holiday in honor of World War I veterans.
“The willingness of America's veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them an everlasting gratitude.” _______Jeff Miller
  • The week of Nov. 11 through Nov. 17 is celebrated as "National Veterans Awareness Week."
  • By celebrating four national holidays on Mondays, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Columbus Day, the Uniforms Holiday Bill ensured three-day weekends for federal employees in 1968.

Some states did not follow the decision and celebrate the day on its original date. There was so much confusion about the exact date.

  • President Gerald R. Ford signed a law on September 20, 1975, according to which the day was celebrated on its original date November 11.

Veterans Day Vs Memorial Day:

Some people might consider memorial day as veterans day. This is because Memorial Day honors service members who died in service to their country, while Veterans Day honors living veterans who served honorably in the military - wartime or peacetime.

“Honoring the sacrifice many have made for our country in the name of freedom and democracy is the very foundation of Veterans Day.”

Veterans Day Activities:

Veterans day can be celebrated in several ways to pay tribute to the veterans. Unfortunately, many people don't know how to celebrate veterans day, so here are some ideas to make veterans day the best day to honor and encourage the services and sacrifices made for our country.

Visit Veteran Hospital:

Contact an assisted living, take flowers for the veterans and chatting with them will brighten their day. In addition, some veteran hospitals need volunteers to look after the injured involved in such activities.

Invite a Veteran over school or workplace:

Invite a veteran and listen to the actual patriotic stories and learn how to serve the country. Some veterans like to speak to students who work at VA facilities.

“America without her soldiers would be like God without his angels.”  ____ Claudia Pemberton

Attend the Parade:

Attend the parade with your family to pay tribute and show love for the veterans.

Visit a Museum:

Learn about our nation’s history and visit the museum and know about the stories of our heroes.

Veterans Fishing programs:

Veterans are our heroes who sacrifice their lives for the country so we should work to reduce the challenges and make them feel relieved and relaxed and to appreciate their struggles, that is the spirit of Veterans day.

Veterans experience an extreme sense of loss of belonging, community, and brotherhood, and face extreme conditions when they are on duty and even when they are retired due to some physical disability. Organizing outdoor adventures for veterans past and present and veterans fishing programs are the best surprise to them.

“What we find is just being with them, spending the day with them, and treating them to a day on the water is the best way to say thanks,It doesn’t have to come out of our mouth, they just know it, feel it, and appreciate it.”

States organize fishing trips so veterans get the opportunity to socialize. Different states allow the free fishing week for the veterans on veterans day. The free fishing days began back in 1991.
